In Memoriam of Mr. Yao Gang: A Tragic Song and an Undying Light for Chinese Warriors Supporting Ukraine and Against Russia
In the dark environment of the CCP’s high-pressure account censorship and media control, countless ordinary Chinese people still chose to stand on the side of justice and speak out for the freedom of Ukraine. They were not soldiers on the battlefield, but on the front lines of the information war, using videos, words, and conscience to resist aggression and spread the truth. Mr. Yao Gang was such an admirable civilian warrior. In the spring of 2026, he suddenly passed away, leaving behind endless sorrow and heart-wrenching pain.
Mr. Yao Gang worked in football-related fields in Shenzhen in his early years, and later lived in Songzhuang Art Village, Beijing. He was an ordinary person who loved life and enjoyed making friends, yet he revealed a warm and sincere side during a chance video call with an old friend. In the early 2020s, in an art exchange group, when Wen Song, “the universally acknowledged trash in the art education field,” launched unwarranted attacks and insults against women, Mr. Yao Gang offered advice in the gentlest and most concise tone. Unexpectedly, he was met with a barrage of insults. This man from Hebei was trembling with rage, but he didn’t back down. He created several videos, issuing a public challenge, responding to the despicable act with righteous indignation. It was this spirit of speaking out against injustice that led him to publicly oppose Russia and support Ukraine.
From then on, Mr. Yao Gang turned to short video creation. Although the production was still somewhat simple, his sincerity and persistence earned him considerable influence on platforms like Tencent Video. He firmly supported Ukraine’s resistance against Russian aggression, publishing a large amount of content analyzing current events and exposing the atrocities of the Russian army, becoming a warrior on the “battlefield of righteous resistance” in China. In March 2026, his videos continued to focus on topics such as Zelensky, the Ukrainian military situation, and the international situation, recording an ordinary Chinese man’s steadfast commitment to peace and justice.
Now, Mr. Yao Gang is gone. This is not just one person’s tragedy, but a microcosm of countless idealists suffocating in the face of a harsh reality. Under the silent pressure of the CCP regime, many voices supporting Ukraine have been censored, and many warriors of justice have been forced into silence. But Mr. Yao Gang and his ilk chose to speak out—not for traffic or profit, but because their conscience could not remain silent. They are among the few brave Chinese people who dare to openly support Ukraine and oppose the war of aggression within China.
Peace is never absent from the presence of true guardians. Besides Yao Gang, there are many more unsung heroes: they persist in forwarding the truth within the Great Firewall, spreading light in art villages, online corners, and in everyday conversations. They may lack weapons, but they build a moral defense with their voices; they may face account bans and threats, but they have never given up their hope for a Ukrainian victory.
Mr. Yao Gang, may you rest in peace. May your spirit, along with those of all the warriors who fell for peace—including the heroes who bravely sacrificed themselves on the Ukrainian battlefield—see the dawn in heaven. May Ukraine achieve victory soon, may the friendship between China and Ukraine take root and flourish among the people, and may more Chinese people awaken: supporting peace and opposing aggression is never about “taking sides,” but rather the most basic choice of humanity.
PeaceNet pays tribute to all the brave warriors who light the way in the darkness for Ukraine!
Your perseverance will not be in vain. History will forever remember every Chinese person who spoke out for justice.
🙏 Mr. Yao Gang, may your memory live on.
Ukraine will prevail. Peace will prevail.
